Kidney
Community

HiLo patient ambassadors provide feedback on the informed consent process, anticipate questions potential participants might ask about the study, and provide suggestions to participant resources. Feedback provided is from the perspective of people with kidney failure undergoing dialysis.

What is the best blood level of phosphate for people with kidney failure on dialysis?

Participant
Engagement in Research

The Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI) believes that all people – including patients, caregivers, community partners and other stakeholders – should be partners in research.

The HiLo team follows the DCRI's guiding principles of participant engagement.

How the Kidney
Community is Involved

The American Association of Kidney Patients (AAKP) is one of the partners in HiLo. HiLo team members collaborate with AAKP patient ambassadors who provide the patient perspective. HiLo patient ambassadors are living with chronic kidney failure and very experienced with dialysis. By sharing their personal experiences with dialysis and living with a chronic disease, patient ambassadors help improve the research experience for all HiLo study participants.
